The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Maritime Registry celebrated the naming of LIAO HE KOU and MIN JIANG KOU, two 7,500 space dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) in July 2024. The vessels are operated by COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd and managed by Wallem Ship Management Limited out of Hong Kong.
Both vessels are designed to comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emission standards and include innovative and advanced environmental technologies on board to enhance vessel engine optimization and reduce emissions while underway. The single engine and single propeller propulsion system uses an LNG dual-fuel main engine, single bow thruster, and an electric roll-on roll-off (RO/RO) system. These technologies are expected to achieve a carbon reduction rate of more than 24%. LIAO HE KOU and MIN JIANG KOU are 199.9 meters long, 38 meters wide, and have space for 7,500 vehicles across 13 vehicle decks, four of which are adjustable.
LIAO HE KOU and MIN JIANG KOU, designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) and built by Fujian Shipbuilding Group were delivered in July at a naming ceremony in Fujian. Members of the Registry’s Shanghai office were on hand for the ceremony. The RMI Maritime Administrator is currently providing technical support for additional newbuild dual-fuel vehicle carriers with expected delivery in 2026 and 2027.
